John Marshall Ballrooms Wedding || Jack & Jodee's Richmond, VA Wedding

What a BEAUTIFUL wedding to start out my 2019 wedding season! Jack & Jodee got married at The Historic John Marshall Ballrooms in Richmond, Virginia and the day could not have gone better! Jodee’s getting ready room was so laid back, as her friends gathered around her to celebrate the big day with their glitter-filled champagne toasts and laughter.

Jack & Jodee had a beautiful first look moment and then got ALL of their portraits done before the ceremony! Event the family portraits and they joined their guests for their pre-ceremony cocktail hour! I loved that they decided to do this- it made their reception time so special as they were able to visit with each of their guests, and have lots of time for the dance floor!

Jack & Jodee- thank you so much for allowing us to be a part of your big day! It was such an honor to celebrate with you both! What a STUNNING day it was!!!

Weekend Update || A movie night, a Wintergreen Wedding, and some puppy time!

Happy Monday! I'm catching up on emails, laundry, editing, and meal prep for the week today- just to name a few tasks on my never-ending to-do list! We had a fun, full weekend. Michael was out of town for work most of last week, so it was awesome to be able to spend some time together as a family Friday night, unplugged movie nights with popcorn and snuggles was exactly what we needed! 

On Saturday, Michael & I headed up to The Wintergreen Ski Resort for Anthony & Ryan's Wedding! Their wedding was such a fun celebration- I cannot wait to share more of their images from their big day! 

The heat hit us hard, so Sunday was spent recovering! We headed to our neighbor's pool and floated around, AND snuggled their sweet new puppy, Lola.  She's an absolute doll-baby and Emerson totally loved chasing her around their back yard! I got a bit of puppy-fever- someone quick! Talk some sense into me! ;) haha!

Barrett & Isabelle Engaged || Lynchburg Wedding Photographer

Oh goodness. I am so excited to share these!! Not only because these two are so cute, but because they are so fun!! There are some couples that I meet and laugh through the entire session! That was totally Barrett & Isabelle!!  

I was getting nervous before their engagement session because they drove up from South Carolina for their session and it had been gloomy and rainy all day.  I mean, are you surprised, it's been raining here for what seems like forever lately!!! But, thank goodness- it totally cleared up and turned into a gorgeous evening!! I headed out to Isabelle's parent's house and childhood home, where their wedding is going to be held and was in awe of the gorgeous view!!

A weekend Recap: Engagements, Newborns, and a Wedding || Lynchburg, Virginia Photographer

Happy Leap Day! It's a BEAUTIFUL day here in Lynchburg, VA- the sun is shining, it's in the mid-60's and I had a gorgeous, busy weekend full of beautiful people!! I traveled all over Virginia this past weekend- from Richmond to Goode and Bedford, to Tyro and back to Lynchburg! It was exhausting, but oh my goodness- so much fun! I love love LOVE being there to document all these important moments in peoples lives! It's so special to me!! 

My weekend started out with a drive to the Richmond area for some newborn snuggles! Cutie little Brady was born this past week and I was SO EXCITED to get out there for some newborn shots! 

On Saturday, I got to celebrate with Andrew & Allie at their BEAUTIFUL wedding in Goode, and their reception at the Avenel in Bedford, Virginia! Everything about this wedding was gorgeous and their friends and family truly rallied around them and made their day SO special! Allison made such a stunning bride, and you can truly see their love watching them! 

On Sunday I headed out to Pharsalia for Brian & Lindsey's engagement session. They are getting married in a few short months out here and I am SO excited! Phrasally is seriously GORGEOUS and was the perfect backdrop for their photos!

Taking Time Off: For Small Business owners || Lynchburg Wedding Photographer

Happy Friday Friends!! We are so excited for this weekend- and not just because this Saturday calls for 60 degrees! YES- you read that right!! I'm so excited because I have the weekend off- no babies to photograph at the hospital, no photoshoots or client meetings scheduled- just two entire days of no working! I'm so excited to be spending time with my family! This is going to be one of the last free weekends I have until after Easter, so to say I'm excited is a bit of an understatement! ;) Oh, but don't be too jealous- there's already talk of more snow next week. sigh. :/ 

Taking time off when you own your own business can be so difficult, but it's so important to take some time for yourself- and most importantly to me, for your family! I'm going to try my very best to unplug (haha easier said than done on my part!!) and enjoy this early Spring weather we're going to get! One of my big goals for 2016 is to schedule days off- and stick to it. This is one of the negatives that people don't really think about when they think of people owning their own businesses.  When you work a typical 9-5 job, you get to clock out, head home, and not think about the work needing to be done when you get back in the office on Monday morning.  A lot of times, I find myself using these "days off" to catch up on work, but for 2016 I'm going to be serious about recharging to avoid burnout! I know I'm not the only creative & small business owner that over-extends myself, says yes to way too many things, & stays up late when the creativity and motivation hits! I know, you guys, it's so difficult to take days off- to tell a client no, you don't have that day available- but I know in the long run, I will be so thankful for that scheduled time off! 

Taking these breaks will make me a better photographer, friend, wife, and mom.  I never want to look back at my life and be thinking about how often I worked and how much of her little life that I missed.   So, dear fellow small business owner, I want to encourage you to take some time off! Schedule some unplugged, planned days off to spend with your friends and family. I promise you- you will not regret it!! And please, help keep me accountable too!! I know I'm going to need that accountability!
