Spring with Emerson: Lynchburg, Virginia Photographer

Friends!! Are you guys loving this weather as much as I am? Probably not, because I'm obsessed! It seems like I had to wait SO long for the sunshine this year- I hope it's here to stay!! 

We are thoroughly enjoying these longer days, the sunshine, trees in bloom, and the warmth!! Em has been begging me to be able to wear her 'down dresses' and tanks all winter- so she is thrilled to finally be able to wear those again!

Emerson's 4th Birthday Party || Lynchburg, VA Wedding and Portrait Photographer

Yeaaaaahhhh, this is embarrassing... Yes, Emmie's birthday was in November, but you know how my story goes! ha! Let's just say it's a resolution to keep more up to date with our own photos! ;) 

Emerson was so excited to turn 4- another year closer to kindergarten and her best friends. ha.  Fall was so busy for me, I totally dropped the ball on planning something! Much to my relief, Amazement Square came through big time and did all the hard work for me! 

First up, she choose breakfast at Pok-e-joes, where they always make her a gigantic plate of chocolate chip pancakes, no matter what time it is! 

Then we headed downtown for some play time at Amazement Square. It's been a few months since she got to explore there, so she had a blast at all the different exhibits! 

Then the birthday room with all her friends! Our amazing friend Miranda made the coolest birthday cake, and the staff at Amazement Square were so awesome and entertained the kids and helped with everything! Yay for low-key and easy birthday parties! (and not having to clean the house!! haha) 

Cannot believe my little baby is FOUR! Goodness gracious I don't even want to think about it- even a few months later! haha! She's growing up to be the sweetest little thing! It's so exciting to see the person she is becoming!! 

Finding Balance in my small business... & Emmie's Tea Party!

One of the most challenging things about being a small business owner is BALANCE! It's super easy to get caught up with all the work I have to get done- not to mention all the ideas I have to make my business better- those things always get pushed to the back burner until I have some down time! Now, don't get me wrong, I LOVE LOVE LOVE what I do. I am so passionate about photography and forming these genuine relationships with my couples, but I am also quickly learning that I have got to take breaks. My family is always my number one priority.  I'm excited to be sharing more about how we find that balance with owning a business! 

A few weeks ago to celebrate Emmie's birthday, we took her out to the Ploughcroft Tea Room for her first 'grown up tea party.'  She dressed up in an Anna dress and loved drinking out of the China tea cups and putting in sugar cubes!

Emerson's First Day of School

Against ALL of my protesting, summer is ending and back-to-school is officially here.  

Em decided all on her own that she know wants her friends and teachers to call her Emerson- not Emmie anymore.  No idea where this idea of hers came from, but since Emerson was my name choice and Emmie was Michaels- I'm 100% okay with it!! haha

Ignore the iPhone quality- we got in town suuuuuuuuper late from Delaware the night before- and we were lucky to have a semi-healthy lunch packed for her today! ha! Her teachers always know when we're out of town over the weekend and she comes in with a hodge-podge of a lunch! 

Em lost a lot of her friends to kindergarten so she was a little sad about going back to school today- but we really made her feel important by telling her she needed to be the big helper and help the new kids that would be scared and missing their parents- worked like a charm! That, and I let her wear her "down dress" with slippers, a little Elsa braid so her hair could be long and beautiful, and some sparkly lip gloss for her special day.  ;) 

We got a picture in front of this bench on her first day of preschool last year, and the last day of the year too! It will be so fun collecting these and seeing how much she grows during the year! 

Emmie took her job VERY seriously- she had to go in and see her best friend from last years' little sister- who was doing just fine, but Emmie gave her a hug and told her she was going to have lots of fun at school! Sweet girl!! :) 

And this last one is so awesome to me! They write their name EVERY morning when they come in to school- this was her first time writing out 'Emerson' and she did SO SO good! (I did have to help with the "S" but geeeeze, let me have my proud mom moment! hahahaha)

I'm excited to see how much she learns this year!!! But hopefully, she stops growing somewhere in there! ;) or at least PAUSES it!!
