Brady: A lifestyle newborn session in Richmond, VA

Last weekend I made the quick drive to Richmond, Virginia for Don & Michelle's newest addition!! I was seriously SO excited to meet baby Brady and sneak in some sweet snuggles! In early January I met up with this adorable couple for their maternity session in the Richmond area, and have been anxiously waiting for the call that little man was here! 

Michelle texted me this past weekend that Brady was here, healthy and that they were all so happy! We quickly made plans for me to make the trip out there! We met at their home in Richmond for a casual and relaxed setting for their lifestyle newborn session! Brady is such a great baby- he did so well and goodness is he cute!!!

Andrew & Allison's Wedding Day: Bedford, VA Wedding Photographer

Remember that adorable proposal I was photographed?! Well, if you thought that moment was sweet- wait until you see their wedding!! 

Andrew & Allison started off the day getting ready at her parents house surrounded by friends and family. They had THE most precious no peek, and when Andrew started praying for them and their marriage, we were all 3 in tears! They choose the most adorable little church that had such an intimate feeling- it was awesome! Their reception was at The Historic Avenel Plantation in Bedford! It truly was such a romantic spot! 

You can tell that Andrew & Allison truly have something special. She was beaming all day, and he kept reaching over and kissing her on the forehead. I am so excited for them as they begin this journey in life together!!

A weekend Recap: Engagements, Newborns, and a Wedding || Lynchburg, Virginia Photographer

Happy Leap Day! It's a BEAUTIFUL day here in Lynchburg, VA- the sun is shining, it's in the mid-60's and I had a gorgeous, busy weekend full of beautiful people!! I traveled all over Virginia this past weekend- from Richmond to Goode and Bedford, to Tyro and back to Lynchburg! It was exhausting, but oh my goodness- so much fun! I love love LOVE being there to document all these important moments in peoples lives! It's so special to me!! 

My weekend started out with a drive to the Richmond area for some newborn snuggles! Cutie little Brady was born this past week and I was SO EXCITED to get out there for some newborn shots! 

On Saturday, I got to celebrate with Andrew & Allie at their BEAUTIFUL wedding in Goode, and their reception at the Avenel in Bedford, Virginia! Everything about this wedding was gorgeous and their friends and family truly rallied around them and made their day SO special! Allison made such a stunning bride, and you can truly see their love watching them! 

On Sunday I headed out to Pharsalia for Brian & Lindsey's engagement session. They are getting married in a few short months out here and I am SO excited! Phrasally is seriously GORGEOUS and was the perfect backdrop for their photos!

Charlie & Emily Engagement: Lynchburg, VA Wedding and Portrait Photographer

Ugh is anyone else just going absolutely crazy with all this rain?! I mean, don't get me wrong, there's nothing like a good, lazy day snuggling under your warm comfy blankets, drinking coffee and catching up on The Bachelor all day long!! But, let's face it... when you're an adult, it's pretty rare that you get to have days like that. And when you have a 4 year old that will only entertain herself for so long before she wants something to eat, days like that pretty much never happen! haha! 

The Lynchburg weather is always crazy this time of year, 60 degrees one day, snowing the next.  The first time we tried to get together for Charlie & Emily's engagement photos, we got snowed out. Then it snowed the beginning of this week, but everything warmed up a bit and luckily it was a beautiful day... just a little soggy & muddy out.  

These two are complete naturals in front of the camera. They are SO adorable- I would direct them into a general pose and they would snuggle up, and I wouldn't have to tell them to do anything differently, they just would! I love when couples are so happy, they radiate and can laugh with each other and you can tell by being around these two for any amount of time that they are so in love! They are getting married in March and I cannot wait!!!

Taking Time Off: For Small Business owners || Lynchburg Wedding Photographer

Happy Friday Friends!! We are so excited for this weekend- and not just because this Saturday calls for 60 degrees! YES- you read that right!! I'm so excited because I have the weekend off- no babies to photograph at the hospital, no photoshoots or client meetings scheduled- just two entire days of no working! I'm so excited to be spending time with my family! This is going to be one of the last free weekends I have until after Easter, so to say I'm excited is a bit of an understatement! ;) Oh, but don't be too jealous- there's already talk of more snow next week. sigh. :/ 

Taking time off when you own your own business can be so difficult, but it's so important to take some time for yourself- and most importantly to me, for your family! I'm going to try my very best to unplug (haha easier said than done on my part!!) and enjoy this early Spring weather we're going to get! One of my big goals for 2016 is to schedule days off- and stick to it. This is one of the negatives that people don't really think about when they think of people owning their own businesses.  When you work a typical 9-5 job, you get to clock out, head home, and not think about the work needing to be done when you get back in the office on Monday morning.  A lot of times, I find myself using these "days off" to catch up on work, but for 2016 I'm going to be serious about recharging to avoid burnout! I know I'm not the only creative & small business owner that over-extends myself, says yes to way too many things, & stays up late when the creativity and motivation hits! I know, you guys, it's so difficult to take days off- to tell a client no, you don't have that day available- but I know in the long run, I will be so thankful for that scheduled time off! 

Taking these breaks will make me a better photographer, friend, wife, and mom.  I never want to look back at my life and be thinking about how often I worked and how much of her little life that I missed.   So, dear fellow small business owner, I want to encourage you to take some time off! Schedule some unplugged, planned days off to spend with your friends and family. I promise you- you will not regret it!! And please, help keep me accountable too!! I know I'm going to need that accountability!
